Pastor Mark Porterfield & Family - I was born in Victoria, Texas and baptized at First United Methodist in Victoria. My family moved to Corpus Christi in the early 60's where I was confirmed at First United Methodist Church. Years later I was recommended as a candidate for the Ordained Ministry.

I attended UT Austin and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and worked a short time for the Texas Highway Dept. before attending Perkins School of Theology. I began my Pastoral Ministry as an Associate Pastor at Westlake United Methodist and went on to Manchaca United Methodist, both in Austin. Buda United Methodist became the Porterfield's home for 14 years. First United Methodist in Portland, Texas was our next home followed by First United Methodist in Port Lavaca, Texas. And now Iím happy to say we are "planting seeds" at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church.

My wife, Margot, is a native San Antonio girl with a Bachelorís degree in Human Resource Management. She worked in HRM until our second child was born. While in Buda she worked for the local paper. During our time in Port Lavaca, Margot worked in HRM for Mid-Coast Family Services.

Margot and I are the proud parents of two girls. Maxwell, is finishing her first year of graduate school at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She is studying Vocal Performance and is well on her way to making a living in the world of Opera. Magdalene is a junior at UT Austin studying Speech Language Pathology. Both girls are caring and generous young women and have a heart for the gospels. Even though they are away at school they remain active in churches in their area.

The theme verse for my ministry is; John 10:10, "Jesus came that we might have life and have it in Abundance." That Abundance comes as we grow more and more into what God created us to be, through Jesus Christ.

Lisa Davis, Dir. Of Music Ministries Ė Lisa Davis grew up in Poteet UMC where she found herself given the task of leading Vacation Bible School music at the age of 12 and soon took over the youth choir as well.  This helped lead her to Texas State University where she graduated with honors and a Bachelors of Music in Music Education in addition to earning graduate certifications during summers at Texas State & SMU.  She taught music to grades K-6 in Comal ISD for 14 years and was recognized as a distinguished educator and mentor teacher.

Her time at CLUMC began in August of 2000 on her first Sunday visiting when she unknowingly sat next to the choir directorís wife, which led to her joining the church (in her new choir robe) on her second Sunday.  Since then things have just gotten bigger taking on various volunteer music duties, smaller accompanist & choir leader rolls, and finally as Director of Music Ministries since January 2009.  After two unplanned summer stints as interim church secretary, Lisa took on this job as well in Fall of 2014.

Lisa canít remember how many different musical instruments she owns and likes to think she can play, but does know they have taken over her living room.  She has considered moving into the church (perhaps with a small mattress under the sanctuary piano), but sadly, there are no showers.  Lisa can sometimes be bribed with high-quality chocolate, Gennaroís key lime cheesecake, or an offer to buy anything musical for the church.  In her free time (whatís that?) she enjoys curling up with her nose in a book and a dachshund at her feet.  She loves this congregation, thanks God for the gifts and opportunities she has been given, and feels blessed to be able to share them here with others.

Tricia Mathis, RN Wesley Nurse - Tricia Mathis RN, grew up in Ozona TX. and has been a resident of Canyon Lake since 1992. She graduated in 1994 from St. Philips College of Nursing in San Antonio. Over the last 20 years her nursing experience has been in New Braunfels and San Antonio. as your Wesley Nurse, Tricia focuses on serving the individual, her congregation and area communities by promoting health, wellness and disease prevention through education, support and encouragement. She provides blood pressure and blood sugar screening, diabetic counseling, medical and nutritional education, fitness for all ages and a listening ear. If you have general questions regarding personal health issues or need assistance navigating your way around the health care system, do not hesitate to give her a call.   "Serving Humanity to Honor God"

Kendra Murphy, Motherís Day Out Director -  I have a passion for working with young children and believe that it is my calling to teach them.  I desire to educate the children of our community about Godís love, engage them in experiences that will foster exploration about His early creations, and encourage them to use their unique gifts to serve His purpose.

I was born in Corpus Christi and grew up in the Bulverde/Spring Branch area.  In 2000, I moved to Canyon Lake with my husband and we began raising our two wild and wonderful boys.  My youngest son attended the Methodist Day School in 2009, and I recall my fondness for the program and appreciation for the many benefits that he would receive.  The school also allowed me to be able to continue my education and earn my Bachelorís degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas State University.  Life has come full circle, and now I am blessed to be the Director of such a passionate program!

I believe preschool can provide children with a solid foundation for a lifetime of learning, and it sets them up for a positive experience about school.  I look forward to helping children discover and learn about the world around them.  I am available Mondays and Wednesdays for appointments and visits, and I would love to show you what our program has to offer.

Tammy Haley, Office Manager - Previous to her hiring she served fifteen consecutive years as the elected District Clerk in a small west Texas community.  She worked for Fisher County for over 17 years before deciding to move to the beautiful Texas hill country. During her professional career she has also been employed as a chief deputy clerk for tax assessor, administrative assistant to a school district, a legal assistant and has even spent time working as a banker teller. During this time she has accumulated many hours of continuing education pertaining to these administrative positions.

Growing up as the daughter of a preacher Tammy has always been an active church member, but never in her wildest dreams imagined that this association would lead her to CLUMC. God truly has a plan for us all!

When Tammy's not working she enjoys spending time with her best friend and sweetie Chris, as well as her family; son Andrew and wife Mara, daughter Sara and husband Andy and two grandchildren, Aiden and Aubrey. Tammy's family brings so much joy and happiness to her life that she revels in every chance she gets to spend with them. She loves rag quilting, traveling, reading, listening to her son in laws band, and spending time at the lake.

Tammy is extremely excited to be a part of CLUMC, and looks forward to her future as a productive member of the staff.  She treasures the fellowship that she shares daily with like minded Christian followers, and she appreciates the value of great friendships!

Katherine Reed, Youth Director - comes from Flower Mound, Texas where her parents and two brothers still live.  She received her call into youth ministry when she was a senior in High School. Throughout her college years at Texas State University, she served as a summer youth intern, assistant children's director and displayed strong leadership in Christian Camp atmospheres.

Katherine is very excited about her adventures into Youth Ministry. As part of the Center for Youth Ministry Training (CYMT) program she was appointed in June 2016 to Canyon Lake UMC for 3 years as Director of Children/Youth Ministry. And Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary is in the near future for her.

Katherine believes, "Youth ministry is the spiritual growth, development and guidance of adolescent church members... The ministry should engage youth in the life of the church and help them discover who Christ is and what it means to follow Him. The spiritual guide/leader should be intentional in meeting students where they are in their faith."  Katherine is very creative with her photography and enjoys outside adventures like; kayaking, tubing and hiking. Having a passion for kids and youth, she looks forward to starting her Youth ministry at CLUMC.
