Canyon
Lake United Methodist Church formally entered into a
sponsorship role for the Girl Scouts program in 2007. The
church provides a meeting place as well as kitchen
facilities for the troops. In addition, the church bus picks
up many of these scouts from Startzville Elementary and
delivers them to the church every other Monday during the
school year. CLUMC also elected to give funds one year to
help defray scouting costs. CLUMC. truly exhibits its motto:
“The Friendly Church Worth Finding” with “Open Hearts, Open Minds
and Open Doors.”
In the
2008-2009 school year, CLUMC proudly sponsored 17 girls in
Junior/Cadet Troop 445, and 22 girls in Daisy/Brownie Troop
1136 all of which are part of 3.7 million Girl Scouts
thought-out the U.S. including U.S. Territories.

Peace
Pole

Have you
seen our new garden-type addition to recently grace our
church? (It is between the upper and lower parking lots.)
Have you wondered, “What is that?” and “What does it mean?”
It is called a Peace Pole….and it is almost finished!
A Peace
Pole is a hand-crafted monument that displays the message
and prayer ‘May Peace Prevail on Earth’ on each of
its four or six sides, usually in different languages. There
are more than 200,000 Peace Poles in 180 countries all over
the world dedicated as monuments to peace. They serve as
constant reminders for us to visualize and pray for world
peace. When you plant a Peace
Pole in your community, you are linking with people all over
the world who have planted Peace Poles in the same spirit of
peace.
This particular Peace Pole is
dedicated to Canyon Lake United Methodist Church from Girl
Scout Troops 445 & 1136. This beautiful garden was given as
a thank you to the church for its continued sponsorship of
our Girl Scout programs. There will be an official
dedication ceremony hopefully in September.
Thank You CLUMC for all you do
for Girl Scout Troops #445 and 1136. |
